Owsley had developed a method of LSD synthesis which left the LSD 99.9% pure. The Point Richmond lab turned out over 300,000 tablets (270 micrograms each) of LSD they dubbed “White Lightning”. LSD became illegal in California on October 6, 1966, so Owsley and Scully decided to set up a new lab in Denver, Colorado.

‘Orange Sunshine’ Is Coming Out Of The Psychedelic Closet
Travis sailed away the next day, but the photos led to an investigation by US Customs, who used his license plate to track him to a post office box he was using back in Cali. From there they followed his wife back to the town of Lone Pine (where they were living at the time), where they observed him using payphones around town. After Griggs’ death, the ranch was all but abandoned, and the fate of the Brotherhood was suddenly thrown into question. Five months later, Leary was sentenced to ten years for possession of two roaches, and ten more years for another previous pot charge. Not wanting to see their beloved guru rot in prison, the Brotherhood decided to break him out.

Operation BEL, as they called it, was a multi-state, multi-agency operation that executed warrants in Hawaii, Oregon, and California (including the ranch in Idyllwild) that resulted in 57 arrests and the seizure of around $8 million in drugs. At the dawn of the decade, LSD was not yet illegal but very difficult to come by. Unable to afford buying doses outright, a couple of curious young SoCal souls robbed a man known to be holding an expensive stash of the stuff. A group of surfers in Laguna Beach who discovered LSD in the early 60s dedicated themselves to the cause and created a tight-knit family of friends to get the dose out.

If you’ve bought Suboxone illicitly, it may not be safe or contain buprenorphine/naloxone. Dealers know how to disguise their drugs to trick even people who have experience taking Suboxone. There’s no way to ensure these medications are safe, even if you use an online pill identifier.
This Product Only Contains LSD
There are very few physiological effects, even with very large doses of the drug. Just like 1P-LSD, ALD-52 is a prodrug for LSD-25 (lysergic acid diethylamide), which means it must be metabolized to LSD before it can produce any of its psychedelic effects. Though the height of the ’60s counterculture era, rumor had it that the primary importer of recreational drugs was something called “the Brotherhood” — an organization so shadowy that many assumed its existence was strictly mythological.
For droves of locals, the demise of Chocolate George signified the Summer of Love’s departure. Back in the 1960s, underground chemists in North America were the largest global producers of LSD. Much of today’s illicit synthetic drug manufacturing has gone overseas, although it is difficult to find reliable information on the main international sources of high-quality LSD today.
Clearlight Acid
A wide-sweeping narrative of sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll (and more drugs) that runs from Laguna Beach to Maui to Afghanistan, Orange Sunshine explores how America moved from the era of peace and free love into a darker time of hard drugs and paranoia. Dr. Suresh Muthukumaraswamy came to LSD by a fairly conventional route. After completing his Ph.D. in psychology at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, Muthukumaraswamy began a postdoc fellowship at the University of Cardiff in Wales. There, he met Robin Carhart-Harris, a researcher who had pioneered recent brain neuroimaging work, exploring how, exactly, psychedelics affect brain chemistry. He conducted clinical research on how a range of treatments — the dissociative ketamine, the anti-nausea medication scopolamine, even magnetic fields — can help treat clinical depression. Now, Muthukumaraswamy works in the School of Pharmacy at his alma mater, the University of Auckland.
Facing 56 years in prison, Scully managed to elude prison because the search was ruled illegal, and he decided to quit the drug game and go clean. Despite dire warnings from his former partner, he continued making LSD. He was eventually arrested in 1973, bringing Scully down with him, as Sand still had a flowchart Scully had made explaining how to make LSD. Moreover, Hitchcock made a deal with the government to avoid going down with Sand and Scully, handing over evidence against them to the authorities. Scully was offered the same deal, but he decided to stick by his friend. “Dubbed the “Hippie Mafia,” the Brotherhood began in the mid-1960s as a small band of peace-loving, adventure-seeking surfers in Southern California.
- In 1970, a cargo plane flew over 25,000 people at a rock concert and dropped thousands of acid tabs to the cheering crowd below.
- Jimi Hendrix was enticed to make an incoherent film, and even the famously stoned guitar god found the Brothers too weird.
- With slight tweaks and modifications, Owsley acid has passed from chemist to chemist, from underground to the pharmaceutical mainstream, like a grape-bearing vine safeguarded by generations of vintners.
- LSD is detectable in blood for up to 24 hours and urine for up to 72 hours.
Colourful History Of ‘truth Drug’ That Bent Millions Of Minds
Overall, ALD-52 has a very low risk of causing any major physical side effects. This is common in the lysergamide family of substances, including LSD. The effects of these compounds are virtually exclusive to the mind.

With hordes of hippies moving into the area, they soon took over a small neighborhood off Laguna Canyon Road which Griggs nicknamed Dodge City. Dodge City became such a psychedelic hotspot that in Winter 1967, Griggs even persuaded acid’s patron saint himself Timothy Leary to come live there with them. As a teenager in Orange County, Travis was making and repairing surfboards out of his parent’s garage while still in high school before eventually opening a small surf shop on Laguna Beach. He smoked his first joint with his buddy Buddha in 1963 and was immediately hooked. He started making regular surf trips down to Mexico and bringing weed back with him.

However, by 1970, they got better than I was and there came a time when I wasn’t able to lose them and I had to abandon what I was doing at the time. Right after that I had a lab accident where I got really stoned and I had a very bad trip and thought the Feds were in the trees outside. And I thought, “I’m done.” I hoped that somebody would keep doing it — but I couldn’t keep doing it. So that takes us to Windsor in California, where we made Orange Sunshine.
CHEMISTRY
Rhesus monkeys (0.15 mg/kg i.m.) eliminated 39% of the (14)C in the urine and 23% in the feces in 96 hr. Extensive biliary excretion of (14)C-LSD occurred in both the rat and guinea pig. Dose (1.33 mg/kg) in the bile in 5 hr and the guinea pig 52% in 6 hr… The film follows many of the crazy, fun, dangerous, and beautiful happenings they embarked on together as they risked their lives to help free minds. And Michael Randall, along with his wife, Carol, was smack dab in the middle of it all, giving away LSD — which had become illegal in the state months earlier — to anyone who wanted it, convinced that the drug would usher in a “spiritual awakening” on the planet. Sand’s partner-in-crime was Tim Scully, and together they are the main subjects in Cosmo Feilding Mellen’s fascinating caper of a documentary.

100,000 tablets (270 micrograms each) of Monterey Purple were made in Denver for the Monterey Pop Festival. Later Owsley started to tablet more of the product in Orinda, California but was arrested before he completed that work. Owsley and Scully also produced a hitherto uncommon psychedelic amphetamine in Denver which they called STP. Owsley and Scully made trial batches of 10 mg tablets and then STP mixed with LSD in a few hundred yellow tablets but soon ceased production of STP. Owsley and Scully produced about 196 grams of LSD in 1967, but 96 grams of this was confiscated by the authorities; Scully moved the lab to a different house in Denver after Owsley was arrested on Christmas Eve 1967.
